Altered Aerosoles

Paint your shoes!
What can be more fun than walking around with art on your feet.

You will need:

shoes you want to decorate. (leather or vinyl)
Lumiere acrylic paint
Golden interference acrylic paint
small soft brush
Fiebing's Leather Sheen Spray
water and paper towels

I found a pair of white vinyl Aerosole brand slides on sale at my local Ross store. I liked the shoes but I just couldn't bear wearing white so I decided to paint the vinyl with acrylic paints. I used blues, purples, greens and gold so that I could wear the shoes with just about anything. I started by painting a blue swirly design on the virgin white vinyl. I was committed now, no turning back. Then I proceeded to paint purple metallic around the swirl by scumbling the brush in different directions. I was careful not to apply the paint too thick. After one layer dried, I added some more colors to create a mother of pearl effect.
After the paint had thoroughly dried, I covered the non-painted areas with newspaper and sprayed a light coat of Leather Sheen on the painted area. I waited for about twenty minutes and applied another light coat. Then I buffed the surface lightly with a soft cloth. Leather Sheen doesn't claim to work on vinyl, but it works quite nicely.

I think it's a good idea to let the shoes "cure" for a day before wearing them.
